What is Luwy?
Luwy is a web app for practising speaking and communication. You speak, get a transcript and AI feedback, pick one fix and try again. It covers impromptu speaking, AI conversation, roleplay, presentations, interviews, shadowing, vocabulary and saved sentences.
Who is Luwy for?
Students, job seekers, young professionals and anyone who wants to speak more clearly under pressure. A Malaysia & Culture mode helps international learners and visitors understand Malaysian communication in context.
What happens after I sign up?
You confirm your email address, then answer a few onboarding questions about your age, goals, languages, situations, level and consent. Every account starts on the free plan; your first paid plan begins with a 7-day trial. Luwy is for ages 13 and over, and if you are under 18 a parent or guardian must give permission by email link before some features are switched on.
What happens during the 7-day trial?
For the first seven days you get a trial allowance of 8 full scored drills, 5 live voice minutes and 1 Communication Gym session. A card is required at sign-up, there is one trial per card, and you are not charged during the trial. After that your chosen plan (Student RM14.90, Pro RM29.90 or Plus RM59.90 a month) starts and the card is charged automatically, unless you cancel first. Without a paid plan you keep the free plan (2 full scored drills and 1 Communication Gym session a month, no live voice).
How does Luwy score my speaking?
The general rubric covers Fluency & Flow, Vocabulary, Grammar, Organization & Structure, and Topic Relevance & Content. Timing, word count, pauses and estimated fillers add evidence about your delivery. You get the reasons behind the score and one fix to work on, not just a number.
Is the score an official IELTS, PTE or exam score?
No. Exam-style modes are practice tools. They're labelled indicative and aren't official scores or a substitute for the exam.
Does the microphone and transcription actually work?
Yes, in browsers that support speech recognition. If yours doesn't, you can type your answer. Browser support, permissions, language and connection quality all affect recognition, so test your browser and microphone before an important session.
Does Luwy use my camera?
Only if you choose to. Presentation and formal-situation practice can show a local camera preview and, if your account settings allow it and you opt in, analyse a single snapshot for framing, presence and lighting. It doesn't record continuous video.
Can I upload my own presentation slides?
Yes. Presentation Lab accepts your own PDF or PowerPoint deck, pulls out the slide text for a speaking plan and lets you edit it before you practise. If your browser can't read a file, paste the text instead.
What is shadowing?
You listen to a natural line, say it straight after the speaker and compare the result. It's a quick way to practise rhythm, stress, pronunciation and delivery without memorising a script.
What is Word of the Day?
Word of the Day gives you a meaning, pronunciation and a natural example, then a chance to use the word in speech. The daily widget is optional, and it doesn't affect your speaking score.
What is the Sentence Bank?
If you come across a useful sentence in a book, video, class or conversation, you can save it, then come back later and use it in a speech.
Can I practise with friends?
Yes. You can add friends with a friend code and compare on a friends leaderboard. Friends you've added can see your leaderboard name, rank, rating, best drill score, streak and number of spoken drills. The leaderboard shows only you and friends you added by friend code, ranked by a lifetime speaking rating in each language, with recent drills counting most. It is a practice comparison, not a certified score. They never see your transcripts or practice history, and you can hide yourself from the leaderboard. Under-18 users are hidden by default.
Is my speaking data private?
Your browser controls microphone and camera permissions. Your practice history and scores are linked to your account. The text of your answer is sent to Anthropic for feedback, and we do not keep the transcript on our server after scoring. Live voice audio and read-aloud voices are handled by OpenAI, and we do not store audio. Where pronunciation scoring is available, a short recording of your answer is also sent to Microsoft Azure Speech to assess your pronunciation. Some processing happens outside Malaysia. The Privacy Notice lists every service we use, how long we keep each kind of data and your rights.
Can international users learn Malaysian language and culture?
Yes. Malaysia & Culture is one mode among several. It teaches local expressions, their meanings, cultural context and neutral alternatives, and it makes clear that language choices vary by person, region, relationship and setting.
Does it work on phone, tablet and desktop?
Yes. The web app works on phone, tablet and computer. Voice and camera features depend on your browser, operating system and permissions.
Can I cancel or get a refund?
You can cancel at any time to stop future charges. There are no refunds after a charge. Manage or cancel from Settings, under Manage / cancel subscription. Payment terms are in the Terms.
